The Local Development Framework was introduced as part of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.

It will consist of a suite of 'Development Plan Documents' and 'Supplementary Planning Documents' together with a Statement of Community Involvement, a Local Development Scheme and an Annual Monitoring Report.

The Regional Spatial Strategy encourages the four local planning authorities of Wellingborough, Corby, Kettering and East Northamptonshire to work together in preparing plans that need to address common issues.

Accordingly, the local planning authorities have resolved to produce a North Northamptonshire Local Development Framework. This will include plans that are prepared by a Joint Planning Unit and agreed jointly and others that are produced and adopted by individual councils.
